Originally from a small village in Essex I joined the Army in 1972 and was posted to Hartlepool in 1975 to serve with 19 Army Youth Team working in schools and youth clubs to promote outdoor pursuits. On leaving the Army in 1977 I started work at Lowhills road sports centre before transferring to Peterlee leisure centre in April 1978.
After a total of 37 years managing sports and leisure facilities I chose to retire in April 2015 and enjoy some quality leisure time. I was co-opted as a governor to Shotton Hall Primary School in November 2015 and will now try to transfer some of my experience and energy into supporting this fantastic little school. I have attended the introduction to school governor training and look forward to learning more about school governance in the future.
In my spare time I carry out quality assurance visits to sports and health clubs and still enjoy keeping fit.
