Old Class 1

Welcome to Class One. We are a Year One Class. Our teachers are Mrs Egglestone and Miss Holcroft. Mrs Caden also works with us one morning each week. This year our topics are Castles, Celebrations and Seasons, Famous Folk and the Living world.

Autumn Term – Castles and Celebrations. We will visit Raby Castle to observe up close just what a castle is really like. We will become planners and sculptors by planning and making clay castles. We will become Authors by writing our own Castle stories. In Science, we will have a chance to answer questions through experiments such as: which material would be best for a castle roof? Children will finish the term with a Medieval Banquet, where the bravest knights will take part in a jousting event.

Spring Term – Famous Folk. We will be exploring lots of famous people from the past such as, Samuel Pepys and the present such as Richard Branson. We will investigate why and how they became famous and what the impact they have made on the world.

Summer Term – The Living world. We will use various sources of information such as non-fiction books and the internet to find out information about the living world. We will explore our outside spaces to gain first hand experiences of the world around us, developing the natural curiosity of our children.   This topic is all about exploration.
