Philosophy for Children and Inclusive School

At Shotton Hall Primary School, we believe it is important that children gain an understanding of the world they grow up in and how to live alongside and respect a diverse range of people.

It is particularly important that we promote an age-appropriate understanding about the protected characteristics. We achieve this objective by introducing our children to a range of stories and texts which promote inclusivity.

Our Inclusive Schools texts are updated every year. Here are some of our favourites:

Philosophy for Children

At Shotton Hall Primary School, we use Philosophy for Children (PfC) techniques to develop children’s emotional intelligence, deepen thinking skills and improve oracy. PfC provides framework that allows children and their teachers to respectfully discuss important issues. It encourages the asking of questions, the sifting of arguments and the exploration of different points of view.

PfC is often used as a way of exploring our Inclusive Schools texts, but it PfC sessions can also take place in other areas of the curriculum such as PSHE, RE or English.
