Pre-School

Pre-School Class

Welcome to Pre-school. The grown-ups in Pre-school are, Miss Jones & Mrs Freeman. Here you will find an overview of our year; our themes build across the year and we continue to follow lines of enquiry from children’s fascinations and interests. We look forward to beginning our learning journey with you!

The first couple of weeks are all about getting to know your child; what they are confident in and what they like (and dislike!). During this period, we begin the most important role of building relationships with the children. We want your child to feel loved, valued and important. We will support the children, help them in getting to know our routines and begin making new friends.

Children in Pre-School at Shotton Hall Primary will get to experience a range of activities that will support vital skills in their development. We pride ourselves on being able to offer a bespoke curriculum; using the environment as the third teacher, Forest Schools and extensive links within the community. We will enjoy learning through play, singing, sharing stories and gaining a sense of belonging.

Each day, the classroom and outside areas are set up to excite, encourage and challenge us. We have lots free-flow, where we can choose where we want to play or what we want to investigate! There is always so much to do! The staff are always on hand to support us in our learning and carry out lots of ‘in the moment’ planning opportunities following observing us through our play.

Throughout the year, we have lots of special days in preschool; festivals, performances, sports days, external visits related to our cultural capital movement, special visitors in our preschool and the opportunity to participate in enhanced experiences such as, cooking.

Our aim is to give your child the tools needed to become a successful, independent learner.
